Wellness Initiative
Wellness & Mental Health were identified during our 2020 & 2018 Needs Assessment Surveys as areas of concern within our community. We are working towards developing programming that addresses these concerns.
Here are some key updates on the Wellness Initiative so far...
• G.A.P. establishes a Mental Health Committee. G.A.P. has maintained a working Mental Health Sub Committee since 2019. This committee was spear-headed and developed to contribute toward a community desire of mental wellness through all determents of health.
• Through 2019, the working group focused in on listening to arising needs from community members asking for a multidisciplinary service center to be established in Gravenhrust.
• Through 2020, continued work was completed to further understand the needs of young adults within the community in correlation to the original service center project.
• Currently, G.A.P. has a goal of creating a community hub with a dedicated Young Adult Centre (YAC).
Within the Mental Health Sub Committee, in 2020, an additional service project formed. This project was in association with Canadian Mental Health Association Muskoka- Parry Sound Branch. The project quickly took on the title, Building Community Compassion Speaker Series. Within this project, G.A.P. has hosted several speakers over multiple topics, such as: Poverty, Addiction and Mental Health Stigma. G.A.P. will be welcoming future speakers in 2022 speaking to a wide range of topics.
