FOR YOUTH PARTICIPANTS:
Young Adult Centre: 'YAC Program'
Gravenhurst Against Poverty is currently developing a Young Adult Centre in downtown Gravenhurst that hopes to serve young people in the community ages 12-29. Once we have a home for YAC, we will be most excited to host programming in person. From outdoor recreation and survival skills to cooking workshops, movie nights, guests speakers and more. It's going to be a pretty rocking place!
In the mean-time, however, we plan to 'meet' virtually once a month (maybe more frequently as time goes on) and will see how things go from there.
Our first YAC Virtual Hangout was Friday, April 23rd for an evening of bingo & snacks and we had a blast!

Want to Volunteer to Help Facilitate the YAC Program?
G.A.P. is extremely proud to partner with MiND-AID in the development and facilitation of a Volunteer Training Program for those wishing to be involved with the YAC Program. There are two roles that we need volunteers for... YAC Allies and YAC Committee Members.
MiND -AID • If you, or someone you care about, is struggling mentally, we may be able assist you in getting the help needed. It is not always clear where to start when you are embarking on a journey to mental wellness. The mental health care system is confusing and hard to navigate and that is why MiND-AID was created. We are here simply to help, and provide our services for free. If your first step is reaching out to us, we can help you plan the next ones, that's what we do.

Currently, there are two separate rolls for Volunteers wishing to get involved with the YAC Program: YAC Committee Members and YAC Allies. The Committee Members will play a role in shaping, designing, planning and steering the YAC Program and the eventual development of the Young Adult Centre physical space. The YAC Allies will be the more in-person program facilitators who will lead the programs and work with the youth (virtually and in-person when safe to do so). If you are interested in filling one of these roles, the first step will be to download and fill out the Application Form below and submit it back to us. Interested individuals will then be involved in a discussion with MiND-AID representative and will also be required to submit a current Vulnerable Sector Check from the OPP. Applicants will then be introduced to the various Training Modules facilitated through MiND-AID.
