2024 Strategic Plan

Gravenhurst Against Poverty (G.A.P.) is helping to create glimmers of hope for so many individuals in our community who are struggling to have their basic needs met. For those who may feel ashamed about not living life to its full capacity, G.A.P. programs provide a place to connect with others, a place where food needs can be met, and a place where mental health barriers can be displaced by something as simple as a special hug from a volunteer. G.A.P. is helping neighbours enrich their lives by providing ways they can fill their buckets with essential resources. As their buckets fill, those who struggle are better able to see the potential in themselves of living "the good life" like everyone else.

One of the hardest things we can do is to take a chance on a new outcome: say yes to the job that seems scary; say yes to the social gathering that makes us nervous. These are opportunities to help us realize our potential. G.A.P. helps us to see our potential by allowing us a safe space to be ourselves, gain new friends and utilize strategies and resources to help us along our journey.

Thank you to the G.A.P. volunteers and donors who help us to help ourselves so we may help others in our community.

Sincerely,

Members of the Lived Experience Committee, G.A.P.

The Lived Experience Committee is a group of individuals who have experienced the hardships of poverty and help to inform the G.A.P. decision-making process. Poverty “refers to the state or condition in which a person or household lacks essential resources— financial or otherwise —to maintain a modest standard of living in their community”.
