Special Message from G.A.P. Chair Beth Houston: "As the Chair of Gravenhurst Against Poverty, I want to give a huge shout out to all of the people involved in our record-breaking fundraising walk on Saturday! Gravenhurst Against Poverty (G.A.P.) is a volunteer-run, charitable organization focused on reducing and relieving poverty in Gravenhurst. Did you know that, weekly, G.A.P. feeds over 700 people, provides taxi vouchers, and runs social programs, all at no cost? We strive to be creative and innovative and to be responsive to the challenges faced by those in need in our local community. To do so, we rely heavily on the members of this community, and this community never disappoints! The $175,000 (and counting) that we raised through the Coldest Night of the Year (CNOY) walk will allow us to be able to provide more opportunities for our neighbours to thrive. Thank you to the walkers, sponsors, donors, photographers, media personnel, restaurants, grocery stores, and volunteers who made CNOY '24 so much fun. In particular, thanks to the organizing committee of 10 people who have volunteered hundreds of hours over the last 6 months to make the event so successful! If you have not seen G.A.P. in action, contact the office at [email protected] and we will be happy to show you around. We always welcome more volunteers." |

Letter from Bonnie Dart, G.A.P. Chair: "On behalf of Gravenhurst Against Poverty, I would like to extend sincere gratitude to every member of the 2023 CNOY Planning and Organizing Committee headed up by Co-Chairs, Sarah Hiscox and Beth Houston. This volunteer committee spent several months preparing for the February 25th CNOY Event. Their tireless dedication resulted in a highly successful fundraiser that was enthusiastically celebrated by 376 walkers, 76 volunteers, 45 business sponsors and a countless number of generous donors made up of family and friends. Honourable mention goes to Bryan White for his marketing and social media magic. A goal-smashing amount of over $142,000 was raised to support our neighbours in need. Congratulations to all!" |
